Mom was one of six children and she lived in Queens, NY. Growing up, she would tell stories that she and her siblings would put on variety shows to entertain their parents and each other. Life was good in the Unger home until Uncle Charlie was missing in action and later declared KIA. This changed the dynamics of holidays and family gatherings for many years.
Still, Mom admitted that she was a wild child. She would often run through her neighbor’s garden, pick and eat his produce and play among the fields. The neighbor was so infuriated with Mom that he would release his wild turkeys in hopes of scaring Mom off.
Mom adored her siblings and would tag along with Aunt . . .
