Dr. Victor Adolphus Nii Ankrah Ankrah
July 23, 1959 - September 26, 2017


Dr. Victor Ankrah, 58, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Mansfield, Texas.  Victor was born July 23, 1959 to Sarah Ankrah and Emmanuel Ankrah  in Accra, Ghana the first male born of 7 children. He graduated from Accra Academy High School in 1978. He went on to the University of Ghana Medical School and obtained his  M.D in 1987 and then to London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where he graduated with his Master of Science in Public Health in 1995.

 He met his beautiful bride,Elizabeth Palm-Ankrah as a young man in the early 70's. They were married in 1982 in Accra Ghana.

In 1989, Dr. Ankrah began a long career in the healthcare  industry, working as a Medical Officer at Holy Family Hospital, where he provided clinical services to patients in the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital. From there, he moved on to Ministry of Health Kibi, Ghana working as a District Medical Officer. He also worked as the Deputy Director of Public Health in Koforidua, Ghana. As leader of the regional public health team, he provided guidance for the preparation of the regional work plan for public health division, which comprised of the maternal and child health, nutrition, and disease control programmes. He led the Regional Health Emergency Preparedness team to investigate disease outbreaks and respond effectively. In 1999, Dr. Ankrah started his journey with UNICEF, where he served in different positions till his depature. During his time with UNICEF, he provided planning and program management to regions of Ghana to scale-up health and nutrition programs.This led to 30% percentage point increase in the coverage of immunization, use of insecticide-treated nets, timely initiation of breastfeeding and oral rehydration therapy. He was also responsible for developing, planning, managing, monitoring and evaluating child survival and development programme, which had three projects:- PMTCT and Pediatric AIDS Care, Child Health and Nutrition and Water and Environmental Sanitation. Dr. Ankrah last served in UNICEF Maseru, Lesotho as the Deputy Represensetive.   

Dr. Ankrah loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was actively involved in church, soccer, reading, and volunteered his time at the local community center.

Dr. Ankrah is survived by his wife, Palm; daughter, Claudia ; son, Arnold ; daughter, Georgina; daughter, Augusta; granddaughters, Alexa Aggie, Ella and numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Ankrah was preceded in death by his father, Emmanuel Ankrah.
