Graciela Zavala
October 08, 1940 - October 08, 2017


Graciela “Chela” Zavala passed away at her home surrounded by her family on her birthday October 8th. She turned 77 years old. She shared 44 years of marriage together with her devoted husband Ruben. Graciela was born in Santa Rosa, Zacatecas. She Loved to Dance with her Honey, Ruben. She attended Lansing Community College and retired as a realtor. She was also a very talented seamstress. Prior to moving to Texas, she was active at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, and served as a member of the Diocese of Lansing. In San Antonio, she became a member of the Guadalupanos, facilitated retreats and prayer groups, led a local Red Hats society and enjoyed Bowling and playing Bunco. She also enjoyed making jewelry and sewing. She also loved to play scrabble and words with friends. She will be remembered for her kindness, great smile, love of Jesus and sense of humor. She was an awesome mother and made friends easily. She was a genuine and gracious woman of God who will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Anita Berlanga, and Roy González. She is survived by her husband Ruben Zavala, son Charles Lee Common and daughter-in-law Debra Common, daughter Valentina Ovalle, daughter Grace Miller and son-in-law Doug Miller, son Eric Common and daughter-in-law Dianne Common; grandchildren, Lee Common, Josh Common, Francisco Gerardo Cabral III, Julio Cabral, Cristina Ovalle, Graciela and Matt Garza, Brandie Hopwood, Eric Common, Jr., Evan Common, John Miller and Ava Sims-Miller, and great grandchild Hudson Garza, siblings Alicia Paz, Estela Bogardus, Camilo Gonzalez, Irma Clowers, Pete González, Ruben González, Step-Children, Ruby, Pearl, Mario & Rita, Honorary Daughters Veronica Strouse, Leticia Gonzalez, Marta Thierath, Irma Lopez and Yolanda Lujan, Honorary Grandson Jarrad Thierath, and many more nieces and nephews. 

The visitation and viewing will be on Tuesday, October 10th at Mission Park North Funeral Home on 3401 Cherry Ridge St. San Antonio, TX 78230 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a bilingual Rosary at 7:00 p.m

***Please Note for Immediate Family Only Visitation will begin at 4 p.m.***

You are all invited to attend the funeral service celebrating her life on Wednesday October 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Catholic Church on 6907 Kitchener St., San Antonio, TX 78240, followed by the Burial at Mission Park Cemetery 1700 S.E. Military Dr, San Antonio, Texas, 78240 then, a Luncheon will be afterwards at St. Brigids Catholic Church.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the St. Brigid Guadalupano Society.
