My heart goes out to the family. May you find comfort in these divine words. They will not take away your pain, but they will help to comfort you all.

Life, like a mist, appears for just a day.
Then disappears tomorrow.
All that we are can quickly fade away.
Replaced with tears and sorrow.
If a man should die, can he live again?
Hear the promise God has made:
He will call; the dead will answer.
They will live at his command.
For he will have a longing for the work of his own hand.
So have faith, and not wonder, for our God can make us stand.
And we will live forever. As the work of his own hand.
Job 14:13-15

Herb, I met you while in graduate school as I interned at The Village. You were rock solid in everything you had to say. Soo many people looked up to you. People felt safe when you were around. You taught me so much about how to help Veterans and when I got a job at the VA you were very helpful in encouraging me. I'm so sorry for all the pain you endured as I wish I had been there for you more. Thank you for your friendship and I'll miss you very much.

As I slumber you constantly journey through my mind
You were a great friend, and a beautiful soul to mankind.
You provided me with strength when I had none left
You were my resting pole when my mom breathed her last breath.
You will always have an elite place in this heart of mine
You will forever be my dear friend till the end of time.

I will unceasingly celebrate your glorious life and praise its worth
Reminiscing on all the lives you’ve transformed while here on earth.
To the Riverside National Cemetery I’ll go to pay my last respects
Releasing all my thoughts and love to the latest Angel to Heaven’s nest.
I will forever embrace our memories and cherish our golden friendship
I will embrace you in my heart and carry you in my soul and spirit.

In 2011, When I began my tenure at the VA, Herb was a friend, a confidant, as well as a Peer. He continued to encourage me to work with veterans, often reminding me of what my lived experienced had to offer other veterans.

In August of 2017, I accepted a position as Certified Peer Specialist; from August to November of 2017, I worked with Herb often; regarding resources and INAP Peer policies and procedures.

I last saw Herb in November 2017, on his way out for retirement. We had an enjoyable conversation about promotional growth and whole health.

In Dec. 2017, I learned of Herb passing away. So sad.

Farewell Herb; thank you for the Peer Support.
