James Earl McBride
December 2, 1929 – April 10, 2017
James Earl McBride was born in Grove City, Pennsylvania, to James and Marian Hoyt McBride.  He graduated from Grove City High School and worked at Cooper Bessemer prior to joining the US Air Force where he met and married Eva May Sollars on September 23, 1954.  Joining the Air Force on November 26, 1951, his military career spanned thirty three years and included sixteen assignments.  Highlights of his career were his assignment at Paine Field, Washington where he met his wife; Patrick AFB, Florida where he was on a Mace Missile crew; and two tours at Castle AFB in Atwater, one as NCOIC in Avionics and the second as NCOIC in Personnel where he retired on November 30, 1984.  Never one to relax, he spent the next ten years employed as a civilian at Castle AFB in Atwater and upon his second retirement, he spent time volunteering for the DAV driving Veterans to Dr’s appointments.

Jim loved his family, the Air Force, the Pittsburgh Steelers, racquetball, being Irish and helping others.  Friends describe him as a larger than life guy often seen cheering his children and grandchildren on by waiving his fist in the air.  And he loved talking to people and was especially fond of sharing his experiences in the military.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eva; three children, Sharon (Rick), Jim and Christine, four grand children Marguerite, Rachel, Sarah and Rebecca, and his brother Gene.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 13th and private burial will follow at a later date.
