Our dad was a beautiful example of a life lived serving others, where selfless acts of kindness were common, regardless of any personal sacrifice it might require. Although my dad never expected anything in return, he valued loyalty, and he loved and cherished his loyal friends. He also loved being a part of the Blythe community and felt a better group of people couldn't be found. He loved mariachi music, USC football, and supporting local high school sports. He taught us to work hard, be independent, and follow our hearts. Our dad gave his family unconditional love and support, always putting us first, even when the end of his life was drawing near. He loved his grandkids dearly, and each felt his unconditional love without judgment. Quite simply, there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. Our dad will be dearly missed, but the goodness of his heart will live on through our own acts of kindness and giving.
In honor of our father and his willingness to give, the Joe Grijalva Memorial Scholarship will be established to assist Blythe student-athletes attending college.
