Mary Groft Thomas passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love of her family on July 1, 2009. She was born February 13, 1929, in Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Sterling L. and Helen Staub Groft, and spent her childhood in Westminster attending local schools there. She graduated from Westminster High School in 1946. Afterwards Mary attended and graduated from Western Maryland College in Westminster, and following that attended nursing school and became a registered nurse, working for several years at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD. There, she met her future husband, W. Lee Thomas, and Mary and Lee were married on March 17, 1951 in Mary’s hometown of Westminster. . . .
