June 27, 1927 - March 12, 2017
Juanita (Nita) Mary Humphrey Clark joined her beloved husband, Gene Clark in heaven today, March 12, 2017.
Though born in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, June 27,1927, Nita was a long-time resident of California. She was a graduate of Bakersfield High School. On February 27, 1948 she married Gene Clark. After many happy years in California, they moved to Redmond, Oregon where they lived the rest of their lives.
Nita was both a homemaker and business woman. She worked as a receptionist for several doctors in Bakersfield. Later she and her sister-in-law, Phyllis, ran the family owned Clark Brothers Orchard. This included supervising the picking, packing, and trucking crews. On the rodeo circuit, she served as a timer for Beutler Brothers and Beutler and Son. After Gene retired from the PRCA, they produced kids’ rodeos where she was business manager of the Gene Clark, Junior Rodeo Association.
She loved to dance, travel, mentor children, and watch her grandchildren participate in rodeos and softball. An excellent cook and hospitable hostess, she frequently entertained large gatherings of family and friends. She loved animals and over the years was caretaker of four chimpanzees and a menagerie of other exotics. Nita loved people and enjoyed visiting with them, no matter their age. She became a surrogate mother to many.
Nita joins her husband, Gene Clark; her parents, Charlie and Mildred Humphrey; her brother, Sidney; and her grandson, Damon Eaton.
Her survivors include: a brother, C.I Humphrey and a sister, Daisy Kunckel; three children and their spouses: Debbie and Roy White of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; David and Patty Clark of Terrebonne, Oregon; Darrel and Jo Clark of Lowell, Oregon; six grandchildren and their spouses: Dusti and John Kapitza, Tommy Clark, Jessie and Jake Telford, Desiree Clark, Dani Clark, and Dallas Blodgett; four great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
