Richie was a veteran of both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. He was a hardworking IT administrator for Charlotte Pipe and an MBA student at Wake Forest. Richie was the father of 3 children, Whitney, 20 a college student, Hailey, 17, graduating from high school this year, and his little buddy and hunting partner, Tristan, 9 years old. He was the baby of our family just 39 years old and killed 2 days before his 40th birthday. All of his siblings had been mercilessly teasing him about turning 40 and joining the rest of us in “old age”. He would say “I’m not 40 yet” and unfortunately due to the negligence and inattention of the defendant he never made it to 40. Richie was also the spouse and Guardian of his wife, Yolanda. This family is no stranger to unjust and unfair loss. Yolanda suffered a traumatic brain injury after neurosurgery to remove a brain tumor in October 2014. Richie had been her full time caregiver ever since her surgery as she now requires continuous care and is just a shell of the person that she had been. Yolanda was declared incompetent by the state of NC and Richie became her Guardian. He was zealous in his care for Yolanda and getting the needed support from the community. I now have the care of Yolanda and their children. Richie was one of a kind with a heart of gold and a life with so much potential that was cut short very tragically.
