Velma Louise Reeves
November 09, 1933 - November 10, 2017
Velma Louise Reeves was born on November 9, 1933, to Jefferson Bradford Seale “Brad” and Dovie Mae Seale in Abernathy, Texas. She died on November 10, 2017, in Italy, Texas.
Velma was known for her altruistic work in Tulia Texas. Most notable was her work with the Tulia Day Care Center (now called the Tulia Child Development Center). She enjoyed the Progressive Study Club in Tulia as well as the Bridge Club and a Bowling League. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Confederacy and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
She enjoyed nature, especially flowers and birds. Her love of nature led her to serve as a campground host in many State and National Parks in the state of Texas. She loved reading and toward the end of her life served as a volunteer librarian at the YMCA Camp of the Rockies in Granby, CO.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, J.B. Seale Jr. of Plainview; by two sons, Brad and wife Sherrie of Amarillo, Texas and Randall and wife Mary of Lubbock, Texas; by two grandsons, Andrew Reeves and Derek Reeves; by one granddaughter Chrisie Reeves-Pendergrass and husband Weston and by one great-grandchild Samuel Pendergrass.
Velma's last gift to humanity was denoting her body to science. A graveside service will be held at the Abernathy Cemetery after the research is concluded. Therefore, the family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Tulia Child Development Center.
