Biography:

James M. Hinton, age 95, entered into rest on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Gordon Hinton and Annie Belle Turner; brothers, Herbert Hinton, Joe C. Hinton, and Lawrence Hinton; sisters, Myra Boyles, and Dora Louise Hinton. James is survived by his wife, Madolyn Martin Hinton; daughters, Anne Hinton, Jane (Thomas) Woodall, and Betty Hinton; and brother, Harold Hinton. James was a World War ll veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was the Supervisor of Engineering Training for Atlas Chemical Industries in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He held a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts from Austin Peay State College and a M.S. degree in Industrial Education from the University of Tennessee, with additional graduate work at the University of Missouri and University of Georgia. Prior to joining Atlas, he was Supervisor of Apprenticeship Programs and Drafting Training Programs at Arnold Engineering Development Complex in Tullahoma, Tennessee. He retired in 1989 from teaching at North Marion County High School in Ocala, Florida. He had extensive experience as an instructor of Industrial Arts at the secondary and college level. Memorial Services will be held Monday, August 7, 2017, 2:00P.M. at Burns Memorial United Methodist Church, 2372 Lumpkin Rd., Augusta, GA. 30906, Reverend John Donaldson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest later in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Clarksville, TN, with military and Masonic honors.
