Karl David Gluck
March 04, 1964 - January 29, 2016
Sadly Karl Gluck left this earth for a peaceful and serene resting place on 29 January 2016. He was found dead in his apartment on this day. He was 51 years old. Those close to Karl knew that he suffered through the illness of addiction and this eventually took his life. Our modern day world can be a cruel and heartless place and Karl's great intellect, warm smile and kind heart was not enough to carry him through it.
Karl was born in Akron, Ohio, moved to Florida when he was very young, was educated mostly in Florida, completed graduate studies in Albany, New York and eventually settled in the Flushing and Queens, New York area. He obtained a Master's degree in Russian and Chinese. Karl was fluent in both languages. Karl was also a certified Paralegal Aide. With these skills he spent most of his professional life placing immigrants in jobs in the New York City area. He also offered contract services translating Russian and Chinese documents. Karl had a natural and amazing gift for learning and using languages.
Karl met and was married to Lan in the 1990's. Dex, Karl's adopted step son, came into the family when Karl and Lan married. Their daughter Vivian was born in 2004. Karl is survived by his immediate family Lan, Vivian, Dex, his brother Ken Gluck and his sister Kathy Gluck Hamill. Karl's parents David Gluck and Norma Everitt are deceased.
Karl's great joys in life were spending time and doing all sorts of things with his daughter Vivian (Vivi), reading and writing poetry, practicing his Tibetan Buddhist religion and socializing with friends of all races and religions. He enjoyed going to diners for his favorite meals.
A small Buddhist service will be held for Karl with all details provided in the "Additional Information" section. Those wanting to make a donation in Karl's honor are encouraged to so at his Buddhist temple. More details will be provided at his memorial service. In accordance with Karl's wishes he will be creamated and his ashes spread on the water in Buddhist tradition for eternal tranquility.
Karl will be sorely and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
As Karl was a practicing Buddhist a small, discrete memorial ceremony will conducted for him on Friday, 19 February from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at:
244 West 54th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue)
New York, NY 10019
There will a formal ceremony conducted by one of Karl's Buddhist friends followed by an open eulogy session for those wishing to speak. As the location is a multi-use space there will not be an indication of “Karl Gluck’s Memorial” and instead indicated as the Buddhist service “Karma Thegsum”. Please proceed directly to the Penthouse 2 space.
Please RSVP for service on Kathy Gluck Hamill's facebook page or as a journal entry. Thank you
