Mark Alan Carey age 65, of Jacksonville, FL passed Monday August 20, 2018 in his home, surrounded by loved ones, after a long struggle with brain cancer. He was born February 12, 1953 in Louisville, Kentucky to Dudley and Hazel (LaTourrette) Carey. He married (Mary) Jo Lash in Nashville, Tennessee on April 17, 1982. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Information Systems from the University of North Florida, he worked as a software engineer at Barnett Bank, Bank of America, JM Family Enterprises, and BB&T. Mark could fix just about anything; a common Saturday found him taking apart an air purifier with one of his daughters. He loved taking walks outside in nature, running, and visiting museums; and he found something to laugh about in even the most mundane situations. He will be missed for many long years to come.
Survivors include wife Jo Carey of Jacksonville, FL; daughters Pamela Carey and Sarah (Kyle) Robinson; sister Elaine (Phillip) Goble of Ellijay, GA; and aunt Vivian Lewis of Grove City, PA.
A memorial service will be held 1:00pm Saturday August 25, 2018 at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church at 7860 Southside Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, with Pastor George Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shepherd of the Woods, Att: Pastor Discretionary Fund; or the Brain Tumor Network (www.braintumornetwork.org); or the Sierra Club Foundation (www.sierraclubfoundation.org).
