Joseph Randolph Miller

Joseph Randolph Miller, formerly of Savannah, GA, New York City, Boca Raton, FL, Jackson, MS and Nashville, TN, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at Alive Hospice, Nashville, TN. He was 71.
Born in New York City, Joseph was the second child of Kenneth Wood Miller, Sr. and Alice Brown Miller. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Wood Miller, Jr.
Joseph attended A.E. Beach High School in Savannah, GA and graduated from Haaren High School in New York City. While working full time, he attended City College in New York, graduating in three-and- a- half years. Then he began his career with Citibank, which spanned many decades. While employed there, Joseph was drafted into the Army and trained at the Officer Candidate School, where he attained the rank of Captain.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to work at Citibank and was offered a chance to attend the Sloan Management Institute at MIT; he graduated from MIT with a Master’s degree in Science. He returned to his former job at Citibank and rose rapidly through the ranks, holding a variety of positions that included Vice President of Global Operations.
After his retirement from Citibank, Joseph was associated with Transcontinental Lending Group of Boca Raton, Florida and Jackson and Canton, MS. While living in Mississippi, he attended Jackson State University, obtaining a Master’s degree in Art and History in 2007. At the time of his death, he was employed with the Veterans Affairs office in Nashville.
Joseph was a friend to many: an advisor, confidant, mentor, and benefactor; he was beloved by friends and family. He leaves to cherish memories, a brother, Philip (Dr. Margie Corney) Chesapeake, VA; aunts, Laura Webb and Sara Jeanette Herring; cousin, Pastor Matthew Southhall Brown all of Savannah, GA; nephews, Kenneth Wood Miller III, (Gail) of Dallas TX , Michael Miller of Chesapeake, VA, Keith Miller of Richland, NC, Ron Miller and Scott Miller of Chicago, IL; nieces, Chandra Brown of Stamford, CT, Sheryl A. Miller of Plantation, FL, Michelle Miller of Roanoke, VA, and Viva Miller of Chesapeake, VA; sisters-in-law Mary A. McPherson of Summerville, SC, and Peggy Miller of Chicago, IL; special friend, Dr. Tamitha F. Campbell of Silver Spring, MD; godchildren, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Burial will be private. He will be laid to rest at the Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
