Stephen Jerome Wyatt was born August 11, 1950, to the late Jeremiah J. Wyatt and Audrey V. Davis Wyatt. He departed this life on Thursday, January 11, 2018.
Educated in the Orange Public School System, Stephen graduated from Orange High School in 1968 where he proudly played the tuba in the school marching band. He furthered his studies earning a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from Bucknell University in 1972.
After graduation he gained employment as a substitute school teacher and later with the New Jersey Department of Human Services where he worked for several years. Eventually Stephen caught the entrepreneurial spirit and along with a co-worker opened an independent bookstore in East Orange, New Jersey.
Stephen was an extremely intelligent person and earned the enduring nickname “Doctor” from his cohorts at Orange High. He was a voracious reader his entire life, as a child he read the complete Encyclopedia Britannica for fun. A fixture at the Orange and East Orange Public Libraries, Stephen’s love and thirst for knowledge was boundless.
He is survived by his only sibling and loving sister Nancy M. Wyatt of Weehawken, New Jersey who was his constant guardian towards the latter part of his life. He is also survived by an uncle, Burnett A. Davis, Jr. and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
